Content Management Systems allow the real time addition, modification and removal of content from a system within a work flow system. It essentially caters for the management of data, data in this context being a web sites content.

Initially websites were updated manually by their individual webmaster, a problem with that setup was many people couldn't all contribute with content towards the development of a system.

One user could ruin the format set by a previous user, alternatively errors could be introduced into a system managed by multiple users. Content Management Systems eliminate these problems and more by providing a generic interface to a range of users all of which can modify the content of a system (Communities, eCommerce Shops, Social Networks etc) safely.

I can design such systems so that content can be added, updated or removed from a system easily using a powerful backend database to store a websites content. The majority if not all eCommerce shops use a content management system, it turns the tedious task of management into a 2 minute walk in the park for the end user.
